The Kansas City Chapter of Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) International has named Melissa Cooper, manager of the Downtown Airport, its Woman of the Year. WTS is a forty-three year old organization with 8,500 members and 60 professional chapters and focuses on promoting the advancement of women in the transportation industry. Woman of the Year honors a KC-area woman who is an outstanding role model and has contributed to the advancement of women and minorities in transportation. Cooper is active in making sure women are a prominent part of the Kansas City aviation industry while working to ensure the next generation of women have the opportunity to succeed. Melissa Cooper, A.A.E, has served as the manager of the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport since 2017 and has a long history of holding industry leadership positions in the area. She holds her commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating. She has a Master of Science degree in aviation safety and a bachelor degree in aviation technology, both from University of Central Missouri.
